Fermion Decoupling and the Axial Anomaly on the Lattice

چکیده
Wilson fermions break chiral symmetry explicitly. Explicit breaking of chiral symmetry is necessary to generate, from the lattice regulated model, the U(1) axial anomaly in the continuum limit for a vectorlike gauge theory [1]. To examine the role of the underlying lattice fermion model in generating the ABJ anomaly a convenient and transparent starting point is the condition, in this context, for decoupling of the fermion in the large mass limit from the background gauge field [2],

(non)decoupling of mirror fermions
We study ’t Hooft anomaly matching in lattice models with strong Yukawa or multi-fermion interactions. Strong non-gauge interactions among the mirror fermions in a vectorlike lattice gauge theory are introduced with the aim to obtain, in a strong-coupling symmetric phase, a long-distance unbroken gauge theory with chiral fermions in a complex representation. We show how to use exact lattice chi...
متن کاملThe Axial Vector Current Anomaly and the Meson Decay Constants for the Improved Lattice Fermion Action
We discuss the anomaly in the axial vector current for the improved fermion action on the lattice. A detailed discussion of the fermion regularization dependence of the anomaly is given and it is shown that for finite lattice spacing the improved fermion action gives a more reasonable value for the anomaly contribution at finite quark mass than the Wilson action. We also present some results on...
متن کاملUniversality of the Axial Anomaly in Lattice QCD
We prove that lattice QCD generates the axial anomaly in the continuum limit under very general conditions on the lattice action, which includes the case of Ginsparg-Wilson fermions. The ingredients going into the proof are gauge invariance, locality of the Dirac operator, absence of fermion doubling, the general form of the lattice Ward identity, and the power counting theorem of Reisz. The re...

I derive the generating functional for n-point Green’s function of the effective fermion (quark) fields in domain-wall fermions, and clarify the issues pertainent to finite Ns and the lattice spacing a5 in the fifth dimension. These issues can be examined by computing the index, the axial anomaly, and the fermion determinant of the effective lattice Dirac operator, in 2D abelian background gaug...
متن کاملPerturbation calculation of the axial anomaly of Ginsparg-Wilson fermion
We evaluate the axial anomaly for the general Ginsparg-Wilson fermion operator D = Dc(1I + RDc) −1 with R = r1I. For Dc in the free fermion limit is free of species doubling and behaves like iγμpμ as p → 0, the axial anomaly tr[γ5(RD)(x, x)] for U(1) lattice gauge theory with single fermion flavor is equal to e 2 32π2 ǫμνλσFμν(x)Fλσ(x) plus terms which are higher orders in Aμ and/or derivatives...
